From 20 to 22 October 2023, Paul Ledron showed Teri at the AKAA fair, Also Known As Africa, at the Carreau du Temple in Paris.
Founded in 2016, AKAA has become France’s leading fair for artists from Africa and its diaspora. The 2023 edition brought together some forty international galleries, a third from Africa, a third from Paris and a third from the rest of Europe. Under the glass roof of the Carreau du Temple, contemporary art and design sat side by side.
Teri
Teri has an organic, asymmetric form. Its curves take in four satellite seats and bring people closer together: the piece is not only to be looked at, it invites you to sit down together.
It is made in Amazakoué, a West African wood still little explored in contemporary design. The studio works it for its density and grain, which are enough to give the object its presence, without artifice.
Born in the Young Designer Workshop and first shown at the Fondation Donwahi in 2022, Teri travelled with the studio throughout 2023.
A Paris season
AKAA closed a Paris autumn for the studio: Paris Design Week in September, then the exhibition with Birimian during Paris Fashion Week. Three settings, three audiences, and one piece moving from one to the next.
