From 1 to 22 November 2025, Walls House of Art gallery in Abidjan presented Design Meets Art: A Colourful Interlude, an exhibition curated by Zeina Nehme. Conceived as a joyful pause, it brought design and art together around colour and material.
Paul Moustapha Ledron exhibited alongside Dalia Husseini, Yubah Sanogo, Fadi El Chamaa and Romilus. Furniture, painting and objects shared the same space and answered one another, with no hierarchy between disciplines.
Wood and colour
For this exhibition, the studio explored the dialogue between wood and colour in a free, intuitive way: playing with shades, contrasts and volumes to reinvent existing pieces and imagine new ones, between continuity and experiment.
The starting point was Sédjan, the solid Amazakoué stool whose name means “long leg” in Bambara. Its taut, restrained line lends itself to variations: change the scale, the material or the colour, and the form still reads.
Two pieces shown
Sédjanba was created for the exhibition. It takes the form of Sédjan to a larger scale: a bench whose seat runs a wave along its whole length, bringing rhythm and movement to the structure, on two tapered wooden legs.
Sédjan Upholstered adds an upholstered seat: the cushion follows the curve of the top and makes the piece more comfortable without changing the original form.
Shown together, the bench and the stools form a family: one line, several uses, and the colour of the textiles as a new field to play with.
